Carmen is always established as a master thief with a history of evading ACME and its agents since she first appeared in Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? in 1985. In most media since then, she is a thief who only steals because of the challenge and simply for the "mental gymnastics", seeing most of her capers and schemes as nothing more than a mere game to her and enjoys making those that oppose her figure out the clues she leaves behind.
